The Sheriff

They were finally at the cabin they would call home after a harrowing journey. The wind had torn the cover on the wagon to shreds. They felt torn to shreds by the hardships of their perilous trip.

They walked into their new home. A cabin where she was sure the wind would blow through the cracks between the logs. She could envision their rag rugs on the floor and the colorful flour sacks sitting with food around the kitchen. The cabin had potential.

There was a knock at the door. She looked out the window and there stood the Sheriff.

#SoCS – Ground

Linda’s Stream of Consciousness prompt this week is the word “ground.” As that word crossed my mind, it was easy to find something to write about. Going to “ground” to me is just about the same as “going to the well.” It means that, for me, it’s time to center myself, steady myself, and stand firmly on the ground in order to decide where life is going to take me next. I’m rather at a crossroads in my life with regard to this second career that I have carved out. I have to decide which direction I want to go.

The Universe is giving me, or maybe forcing me, to take some time to make my decisions. My husband and I are going to take a big trip very soon. We live in the U.S. and we’re going to Europe; specifically, the Mediterranean. I have been all over northern and Central Europe, but never to Southern Europe. We’re taking a wonderful cruise around Italy, France, and Spain and some of the islands in the sea. We’ll, of course, be on the ground in Europe some as we stop at ports of call. I can’t really make any decisions about my career or start anything new until we return. It will give me some time to do some thinking. This will be valuable, I think. I’ll take pictures and share them with al of you when we return.

Analytical or Creative?

I have been a writer all of my life, taking time out to be a college professor for most of 30 years. Even then, I wrote about my field for the popular press, usually not cool for the academician, and I also engaged in academic writing as a good a ademician should. Never got around to the creative stuff, though it was always in my head.

Now that I am writing freelance, I am going to do both…..some creative writing for my own pleasure like this essay. Who knows, maybe I can even get a publisher interested.

I have to keep food on the table, so my analysis and reporting of the goings on in business and business finance will continue. It’s fascinating, particularly in this new political climate in which we find ourselves. Big economic implications will arise. I will try to make sense of all of that and more. Here is my latest article on startups. I may even try my hand at a few ebooks.

Please comment and let’s have a conversation. I will enjoy getting to know you. Come back often.
